About the studio

We are the ones
making the noise.

“A silent house is a dead house.” Lucy Parsons, Chicago, 1886

Bad Ass Madge Productions is an independent media studio in Lansing, Michigan.

The studio works with UNLIT Publishing, which means it has a permanent client with real deadlines and no patience, books that ship on a date, campaigns that have to be in market before the date, and a community that notices immediately when something rings false. That is a good way to learn to work fast without lying.

Who Madge is

Madge is the loud one at the table. She is the aunt who says the thing everyone else has decided to be polite about, and who is right often enough that nobody has managed to stop inviting her.

The mark is a crow mid-scream with three bolts coming out of its beak. It is not subtle. That is the point. The studio is named for the instinct to say it out loud, and Lucy Parsons (the Chicago labor organizer who spent a lifetime being told to lower her voice) gets the last word on every page of this site.

What we actually do

How the films get made

Scripts are written by people. Some footage is shot and some is generated with AI video tools, then edited, graded and sound-designed by hand. We say so plainly rather than leaving it to be discovered, and we do not use generated likenesses of real people.

The lines we do not cross. No real person is a prop. No stock footage of somebody's body standing in for an illness. No numbers on a scale, no before-and-after. No medical claim, ever, not in a card, not in a voiceover, not implied by an edit. Every factual claim gets a source or gets cut, and if a client cannot back a claim in writing, it does not go in the film.

Where we are

Lansing, Michigan. Small crew, remote collaborators, fast turnaround. We work with authors, small publishers, causes and the occasional business that has something worth saying and has been told to say it more quietly.
